Phuket is not only a famous resort but also a great starting point for trips to nearby islands. Coral Island, or Koh Coral, is one of these places. It attracts tourists with its proximity to Phuket, pristine sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters. In this article, we will tell you why this paradise is worth your attention, how to get there, and what to expect.

Description of the Island

Coral Island is located just 9 kilometers south of Phuket. It is a small island known for its picturesque views, white sand, and diverse marine life. Here, you can enjoy peace, snorkel, and even stay overnight to experience the tranquility. The island got its name because of the coral reefs, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving.

Coral Island Beaches

There are two beaches on the island: Long Beach and Banana Beach.

Long Beach is a long beach where everyone can find a spot to relax and swim. The right side of the beach is good for swimming at any time, unlike the left side, where it is better to swim during high tide. This beach has sunshades, bars, and restaurants. All excursion boats arrive at this beach, and lunch is served here. There is also a freshwater shower, which makes the return trip home much more comfortable.

Banana Beach is a small and secluded beach, mainly accessible only to individual visitors or those who book a private tour. There is also a restaurant and various water activities available.

How to Get to Coral Island from Phuket

Coral Island (Koh Hey) is located just 9 km south of Phuket, making it one of the easiest islands to visit for a half-day or full-day trip.

Ways to get there:

  • Speedboat from Chalong Pier – ⏱️ 20–25 minutes, the fastest and most popular way. Most tours depart from here.
  • Long-tail boat from Rawai Beach – ⏱️ 40–50 minutes, a more traditional and budget-friendly option, but less comfortable in rough seas.
  • Organized day tours – include hotel transfer, boat ride, snorkeling equipment, lunch and beach chairs. Prices start from 1,500 THB per person.

💡 Tip: Always check the weather during the rainy season (May–October). Strong waves may cause speedboat trips to be delayed or canceled.

Things to Do on Coral Island

Coral Island is famous for its crystal-clear water and variety of activities:

  • Snorkeling & Diving – see colorful coral reefs and tropical fish close to the shore.
  • Water Sports – try parasailing, banana boats, kayaking or jet skis.
  • Beach Relaxation – two main beaches, Long Beach and Banana Beach, both with sunbeds and restaurants.
  • Seafood & Thai Restaurants – enjoy fresh seafood, Thai curries and cocktails right on the beach.

Coral Island vs Racha Island – Which to Choose?
